The Fort Wilderness Resort is two [click] two [click] two resorts in one. Okay, maybe a doublemint commercial was not the best analogy to come up with, but the Fort Wilderness Resort at Walt Disney World is in fact two types of accommodations in one very large footprint. Plus the food and entertainment is more enjoyable than most other Disney resorts.

Some of my fondest memories as a child are of camping at the Fort Wilderness Campground where your Disney vacation meets the great outdoors.

Let's all take a trip down Memory Lane at Fort Wilderness ... or, rather, Memory Railroad. Way back before Wilderness Lodge was built, over at Fort Wilderness, one could ride the rails on the Fort Wilderness Railroad.

This is the wonderful Fort Wilderness of 1978. There’s River Country, shown in detail, as well as Discovery Island. Compare this map to Fort Wilderness in 1988; much less had changed in that decade than has changed since. But now the next time you head out to explore the wilds of Fort Wilderness, you can do a little Disney archaeology and trace the trail of the late, lamented Fort Wilderness Railroad.

Fort Wilderness is just a skip, hop, and jump away from Wilderness Lodge, and a great plus is that the resort is full of evening activities for the entire family!
