This summer, Southern California’s theme-park titans will wage a nightly megawatt battle of the lights — all in hopes of winning your hearts and wallets.

On opening day, some fans waited overnight for 13 hours for the park to open. But the lines dwindled to about 20 minutes shortly after the first group emptied out.

Last August, the Disneyland Resort embarked on a multi-million dollar renovation of the Disneyland Hotel guest rooms, a project that is expected to be completed in stages through 2012. About 160 of the refurbished rooms have reopened in the Magic Tower, and I recently had the opportunity to tour one of the finished rooms.

The Disneyland Magic Shop got a new operator late last year when Houdini’s Magic Shop was picked to take over operations.

The first thing Geno Munari, the founder of Houdini’s, did was to bring in several certified magicians to entertain guests in the shop.

On March 10, though, the youngster celebrating one year of life will be D23, the Disney fan community that shares its name with the D23 Expo that was staged so memorably in September in Anaheim.

Much like it's "cousin" the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique (BBB) inside Disneyland, Studio Disney 365 at Downtown Disney allows guests to become their favorite Disney stars. While BBB transforms kids of all ages into princesses and princes, Studio Disney 365 transforms guests into pop stars.

Disney is considering turning the island attraction at Disneyland (once the ‘Swiss Family Robinson’ Tree House, later a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’-themed scene) [into] yes, ‘Lost Island.’ Theme park fans should stay tuned.
