With the help of what looks like a fire company’s hose, Disney began re-filling the Rivers of America on Monday. “Look, they’re refilling it,” said one mother to her daughter as they peeked through the temporary fence Disneyland set up in front of New Orleans Square around the famous waterway surrounding Tom Sawyer Island.

Right after the holiday season, visitors to Disneyland will find a dry Rivers of America.

The river is scheduled to be drained beginning Jan. 4 and won’t be filled up again until May, according to officials with the theme park.

For more than 45 years, the Disneyland Resort has hosted Cast Member Canoe Races that take place every summer around the Rivers of America. This tradition allows participants to experience teamwork...

The Rivers of America at Disneyland were recently filled after being drained for for several months. I had a chance to stop by the park today and check it out. The Columbia was closed when I got there and the Mark Twain was still in drydock, so I went over to Tom Sawyer Island.....oops, I mean the Island Formerly Known as Tom Sawyer........

Since we’ve spent a considerable amount of time crisscrossing the park over the past few months, now is a great time to slow down and relax for a bit. For our eighteenth stop, let’s hop aboard the Liberty Belle Riverboat and take a cruise along the Rivers of America.

The river began refilling earlier this week with recycled water just like was done with the water for the lagoon at Disney’s California Adventure.

Some of the new scenes included a new resident in the settler’s cabin on the island, Mike Fink from Walt Disney’s television mini-series, “Davy Crockett.”

A small herd of deer were spotted near a new stream tumbling down the rocks from the tracks for the Disneyland Railroad.
