Now that we’ve all seen the iPad and debated its design merits, let’s cut to the chase: This thing will rise or fall on content. If Steve Jobs can get a bunch of cool books and apps on the thing, we’ll want one. If not, we won’t.

Where will His Steveness get some of those books? I say the same place he’s gotten so many movies and TV shows for iTunes in the past: Disney (DIS).

Bidders are estimating to pay around $700 million for the studio property. Disney has already closed Miramax’s offices in New York and Los Angeles and has laid off 80 people. Disney seems to be in a cash crunch as it has already delayed and scaled back its scheduled releases.

Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC following the event that iPad will generate more revenues for his company because it provides a “compelling,” boundless content platform. It is likely Disney, in which Jobs is the largest shareholder and board member, will play a similar leadership role with iPad.

Microsoft and Disney have held "in-depth talks" to bring ESPN content to the Xbox 360, The New York Times reports.

What was supposed to be a trip report turns into a review of The Princess and the Frog instead. Particular focus is given to the racial issues connected with the film and Disney's awkward handling of those.
