Beautiful, right? Treasure Island, Discovery Island, however you know it, this jewel of Bay Lake served as a sanctuary to animals long before Disney’s Animal Kingdom was a glint in Joe Rohde’s eye.

Animal Kingdom is my favorite park at Walt Disney World -- and not because of the roller coaster, Expedition Everest! I love to watch, learn about and photograph the wide variety of wildlife in the park.

I’m going to share with you one of my favorite trails in Discovery Island, one that is often overlooked.

Talk about an icon!! The Tree of Life is positively the first thing most people think about when Disney’s Animal Kingdom is mentioned. It is not just beautiful but it is an engineering marvel.

Today we continue our series on the shops of Discovery Island and the theme that each one carries throughout it’s decoration and detail. Last week we started with Island Mercantile, which is adorned with animals that help carry the load and work, as well as animals that spend part of the year migrating.

This week we are taking a closer look at Disney Outfitters which sits just across the way from Island Mercantile.

Disney's Folly once mused that Disney was going to bring a Lost-themed attraction to the former Discovery Island location. With the show off the air now, I doubt that Disney would ever come close to developing the island based on a syndication-unfriendly niche show. But that doesn't mean there aren't a multitude of valid, profitable ideas out there to take over Discovery Island.
