The Walt Disney Co. is no stranger to successes and nowhere is that more evident than in the Academy Awards. Over the years the company has received 147 Academy Awards while Walt Disney personally received 32 – more than any individual, ever.

There is a tradition in science fiction to make a film that takes some scientific fact about the world or the universe around us and then extrapolate that to its extreme end. It’s a well known tradition, and one that science fiction does well. For Wall-E, it’s the ever increasing amount of garbage that is surrounding us here on Earth.

In case you haven’t noticed, life is pretty complicated these days. It goes by fast, making us run after it, trying desperately to keep up. We turn to the experts for help, who tell us to simplify, de-clutter, refocus, spend quality time, look at the big picture, thin down, shape up, get outside, spend more, save more, read more, BE more.

In order to nip that sentiment in the bud, the United States began the Good Neighbor Program. They sent ambassadors of good will to neighboring countries to show the positive influence that the US could have. Walt Disney and his team of artists made one of the most successful of these trips when they were sent to South America.

Out with the old year, in with the new, right? In all honesty, I can say that 2011 may be the year I am most looking forward to in the world of Disney films. There are great stories, interesting plots and lots of intrigue. And that’s just in the studio offices. So let’s take a look at a few of the different types of films coming out from Disney and their associated studios in 2011.
