The Walt Disney Co. is no stranger to successes and nowhere is that more evident than in the Academy Awards. Over the years the company has received 147 Academy Awards while Walt Disney personally received 32 – more than any individual, ever.

My husband and I had the fabulous opportunity to attend a D23 screening of Bambi at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

There is a tradition in science fiction to make a film that takes some scientific fact about the world or the universe around us and then extrapolate that to its extreme end. It’s a well known tradition, and one that science fiction does well. For Wall-E, it’s the ever increasing amount of garbage that is surrounding us here on Earth.

Simple story, beautiful animation, music lending to the story telling, memorable characters and an antagonist you love and love to hate. The Little Mermaid has it all. I wanted my first movie review for “The Zone” to be about the first Disney movie I ever remember seeing. And how fortunate for me that it is also the movie that sparked the Disney Renaissance, thus giving me great films throughout my childhood?!

EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW IN LIFE I LEARNED FROM DISNEY
In case you haven’t noticed, life is pretty complicated these days. It goes by fast, making us run after it, trying desperately to keep up. Personally, I wanted to see Tangled since I had been waiting so long already to see it, and I didn’t think Tron was going to be something I could get into. Boy, was I wrong!!!

So let’s take a look at a few of the different types of films coming out from Disney and their associated studios in 2011.
