For residents of one of the villages slated to be razed for the construction of a Walt Disney Co. theme park here, a visit by city officials on Aug. 3 raised hopes that a long-anticipated windfall for using their land was finally in sight. But some of Zhaohang village's 4,000 people weren't included in what residents said was enrollment in an insurance and annuity program.

Walt Disney Co. is close to unveiling technology that it says will enable entertainment companies to adapt their business models to a new reality in which consumers increasingly rely on computers and cell phones in place of DVD players and TVs.

The Indian government said Thursday it has deferred a proposal from the Indian unit of Walt Disney Co. to publish a speciality magazine locally.

Walt Disney Company India Pvt. Ltd. had submitted a proposal to publish a speciality magazine in India, said the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, the Indian regulator for foreign investments in the country, said in a statement.
