I started this list off with a few requirements in mind, since a list as general as this is open to a lot of interpretation.

Passport to Dreams Old & New: Magic Kingdom Half Year Report!
The first half of 2009 saw continued work in the Magic Kingdom, some of which has cosmetically altered a lot of what had been in place since the 1970's.

Passport to Dreams Old & New: Who Lives Here?
We should not totally exclude the experience of the spectator from the diagesis of the piece. The theme parks are meant for people; anybody who has experienced the cold and unique desolation of a Magic Kingdom with no patrons in the wee hours of the morning understands fully how the entire operation's illusion of warmth and vitality depends on the prescence of music, spectators, employees.

See the Village. Tonight. Part One...
Where once there was a funky, unique, forward-thinking little part of Walt Disney World, Eisner swept in and transformed it into... a pretty ugly outdoor mall. But I'm not here tonight to complain about the Village now, I'm here to honor what it was then.

Passport to Dreams Old & New: An Aesthetic Profile of Adventureland
What follows is an extensive, visually oriented view of Adventureland based on the concept of getting down to the level of colors and textures instead of things like building shapes and placement. I did this by photographing literally every unique surface in Adventureland and then tediously sorting out the most representative of these "swatches".

Passport to Dreams Old & New: An Aesthetic Profile of Caribbean Plaza
Caribbean Plaza is thematically one of the most complex areas of the Magic Kingdom, not often commented on. This grouping shows two of the most distinctive features of the Plaza evident as you first enter, the tile roofs and the sudden introduction of planters which hold back the jungle with formalized iron boxes and rails.

Snapshot: Great Southern Craft Company
Let's take a quick trip back in time to visit one of the Village's many distinct shops: the Great Southern Craft Company. You can picture the scene: a peaceful blue spring morning in Lake Buena Vista. Near the Captain's Tower, flowers are arrayed on steps leading to the reflection pond. The only sound is that of the lagoon's waves gently lapping the dock from a passing boater.

History and the Haunted Mansion
One the the first questions I ever raised about the Haunted Mansion is why the heck it's in Liberty Square, an apparent skeleton in the closet of an otherwise masterfully realized park. I can put some meat on those bones now, but not yet - let's first discuss something nobody's talked about yet in relationship to the Haunted Mansion - historical reality on Main Street, USA.

Disney and Kodak have such an extensive and long term relationship that it often seems hard to separate the two. The ties between the two companies go back a long time.

The Case for the Florida Pirates
This is going to be a hard one to discuss, although it really shouldn't be. Pirates of the Caribbean, in Florida, is one of those rides - the first, in fact - which received a markedly inferior remake the second time around and much of the commentary surrounding the ride itself has been clouded by people falling all over themselves to damn the attraction for not being the first version.
