Daveland@Disneyland A-Z Autopia: Part I

http://www.2719hyperion.comMore from this Domain

"Sponsored by Richfield (1955–1970), The Autopia was an exciting representation of the future of America’s highways. Cars without bumpers were almost completely destroyed by the test drivers, so bumpers were fitted around the vehicle; spring-loaded bumpers were eventually installed to discourage the all-too-tempting collisions by guests of all ages."

A great look at the autopia, including loads of great photos from the "olden days."

2719 HYPERION: Book Review: Since the World Began

http://www.2719hyperion.comMore from this Domain

Since the World Began was published in 1996 to coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Walt Disney World. Until then, there had been only a handful of official Walt Disney World publications and souvenir guides; nothing that matched the scope of Since the World Began. Nothing else has even come close.

2719 HYPERION: The Haunted Mansion Supplement

http://www.2719hyperion.comMore from this Domain

Scans of a wonderful vintage Disneyland document. The Haunted Mansion Supplement appears to have been a publication to the internal newsletter Backstage Disneyland, and was produced to commemorate the 1969 opening of the Haunted Mansion. It is a tongue-in-cheek send-up of WED Enterprises, the company’s theme park design division that would ultimately evolve into Walt Disney Imagineering.

2719 HYPERION: Behind the Walls of Hollywood Studios

http://www.2719hyperion.comMore from this Domain

Nearly seven decades ago, Walt Disney and his talented staff of animators created a place called Hollywood Studios that served as the setting for the 1939 Donald Duck cartoon, The Autograph Hound.

The hallmarks of this Donald Duck vignette are the numerous celebrity-inspired characters that were created to populate the fictional movie studio that Donald gate-crashes in search of autographs...

2719 HYPERION: Book Review: Walt Disney and the Quest for Community

http://www.2719hyperion.comMore from this Domain

"Steve Mannheim has written a wonderful academic treatise on Walt Disney and Walt's dream for Epcot. The focus of the book is the Epcot City, the development of the ideas and their ultimate fruition. Although the title is treated as an academic work, it can almost be considered a page-turner. Steve has done an impressive job of distilling New Urbanism concepts into a readable and understandable read (for us laymen)."
